What will the water deregulation mean for your business?

After the success of our first Twitter Q&A, our resident expert, Dru Widdowson hosted a second Q&A in October inviting businesses from Calderdale to tweet their questions about the upcoming water deregulation which takes effect from 1 April 2017. From this date, businesses across all sectors will be able to choose their water supplier for the very first time.

Here’s a round-up of the most popular queries:

Q: What’s the first step businesses need to take before switching?

A: It’s best to give us a ring or pop in to Orchard Energy for a chat. Then all we need are your bills and your approval to start the switching process.

Q: Why is the deregulation happening? How will it affect businesses in Calderdale?

A: Scotland deregulated in 2008 with great success. The deregulation of the commercial water market in England will mean Calderdale businesses will be able to access better prices.

Q: What does the water deregulation mean for businesses in Calderdale?

A: Businesses will be able to take advantage of a more competitive contract, ultimately saving them money.

Q: We rent our premises, is this something our landlord should take care of, or do we still have a choice?

A: If you receive the bills you’ll be able to choose, if not then speak to your landlord who will manage the process for you.

Q: Is there a deadline to switch water supplier?

A: There isn’t a deadline but the official start date is the 1st April 2017. We’re getting contracts set up to start then.
